How do I forgive someone I cannot stop thinking about?

You are standing in the shower, or sitting in traffic on the N1, and there they are again. The same face. The same words they said. You did not invite them. They just arrived, like they always do. You have told yourself a hundred times to let it go, and you mean it every time. But meaning it and feeling it free you are two different things. Forgiveness is not a feeling you wait for. It is a decision you make before the feeling shows up, and today God gives you the wisdom to see how.

"Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye."

Tonight, before you sleep, say this person's name out loud to God. Not to pray blessing on them if that is too far right now. Just say the name. Tell God honestly: I cannot carry this anymore, and I cannot fix it on my own. Ask Him to do in you what you cannot do by yourself. That is where it starts.

Whose face comes to mind when you are trying to rest?

God, I am tired of carrying this person in my head. I choose to hand them to You today, not because it feels easy, but because I trust You with what I cannot hold. Help me forgive the way You forgave me. Amen.
