Who am I when the role that defined me is gone?

You handed in your access card, or the kids left home, or the relationship ended, and now you stand in a room that used to have a clear answer to the question 'who are you?' You used to say the job title, the role, the name of the person who needed you. Now that answer doesn't fit anymore. That silence is not a small thing. It can shake a person to the floor. But here is what God says into that silence.

"But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light."

Tonight, before you sleep, take out your phone or a piece of paper and write your name at the top. Underneath, write one sentence that starts with 'God says I am...' and finish it with something from today's verse. Not your old title. Not what you do. Just what He says you are. Read it out loud, once, slowly.

What is the first thing you say when someone asks who you are?

God, I lost the words I used to describe myself. Teach me to start with what You say about me, not what I used to do. Show me that Your name for me was never the role. Amen.
