Why did my closest friend hurt me and walk away?
By Ricardo Zaal, Founder and Lead Pastor ·

You still have their contact saved. Maybe you deleted it, then typed the name in again from memory. The chair across from you at lunch feels wrong now. Not because you are alone, but because that specific person is not there. The worst part is not the silence. It is that you did not see it coming, and you keep replaying the moment, wondering what you missed. David wrote those words after his closest friend turned on him. A king, and he was wrecked. He put it in a song because the pain was that real, and God let him. Which means God can hold this.
"For it was not an enemy that reproached me; then I could have borne it: neither was it he that hated me that did magnify himself against me; then I would have hid myself from him: But it was thou, a man mine equal, my guide, and mine acquaintance."
- Psalm 55:12-13 (KJV)
Here is the challenge, and it is a hard one: before you decide what this friendship was, sit with God for five minutes today and ask Him to show you one true thing, not about your friend, but about yourself. Not to take blame that is not yours. Just to stay open. Closed hearts heal slower.
What is the one conversation with that friend you keep replaying?
God, this one hurts more than I want to admit. I do not understand it, and I am angry. Hold me in it, and keep my heart from going hard. Amen.
Say this out loud
I am allowed to grieve this. My worth is not decided by who stayed or left. God sees me clearly, and He is not finished with me.
Tomorrow: Why do I feel empty after finally getting what I wanted?
