Why do I feel empty after finally getting what I wanted?
By Ricardo Zaal, Founder and Lead Pastor ·

You crossed the finish line. Maybe it was the promotion, the degree, the house, the number in your account. You worked years for it. And now you are standing on the other side and something feels wrong, because instead of full you feel hollow. That is not ingratitude. That is not weakness. Solomon built palaces, planted vineyards, owned everything a person could want in 950 BC, and he felt exactly what you are feeling right now. He wrote it down so you would know you are not broken. The emptiness is a signal, not a sentence. It is pointing you somewhere. Listen to what God says into it:
"Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that I had laboured to do: and, behold, all was vanity and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun."
- Ecclesiastes 2:11 (KJV)
Tonight, find five quiet minutes before you sleep. Tell God out loud the one thing you chased hardest to get. Then ask Him one honest question: 'What were You trying to be for me that I thought this thing would be?' Stay quiet for a moment after. Let that question sit between you and Him.
What did you think you would feel once you got there?
God, I have what I worked for and I still feel empty. Show me what only You can fill. I do not want to chase the next thing before I understand this one. Amen.
Say this out loud
I am not broken for feeling empty. There is a place in me that only God can fill. I will stop running and let Him meet me here.
Tomorrow: How do I know which way to go when I feel totally stuck?
