Why do I feel guilty every time I stop and rest?
By Ricardo Zaal, Founder and Lead Pastor ·

It is Sunday afternoon. The dishes are done. You finally sit down. And within two minutes a voice starts: you should be doing something. That voice is not God. It sounds responsible, but it is a lie that has been running in you so long it feels like conscience. God does not need you to earn rest. He built it in from the beginning, and he gives sleep to those he loves as a gift, not a reward.
"It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep."
- Psalm 127:2 (KJV)
Tonight, before you close your eyes, say this out loud: 'I am stopping because God says I can.' Then let yourself lie down without opening an app or running a mental list. Five minutes of stillness, just you telling God you trust him with everything you did not finish today.
What unfinished task is making you feel guilty right now?
God, I keep treating rest like a thing I have to earn. Teach me that you give it freely, like a father giving a child sleep. Help me lie down tonight without guilt. Amen.
Say this out loud
I do not have to earn rest. God gives sleep to those he loves, and I am one of them. I can stop today and trust him with what is left.
Tomorrow: Why won't my teenager talk to me anymore?
