A Prayer for When the Waiting Feels Too Long

Trusting God in the Waiting · Psalm 27:14

By Ricardo Zaal, Founder and Lead Pastor ·

Pray this now

God, I am tired of waiting. I have asked, and nothing has moved, and I do not know how much longer I can hold this. I am not asking you to fix it by morning. I am asking you to hold me steady inside it. Give me enough strength for tonight. Give me enough hope for tomorrow. Help me stay brave while I wait for you. Amen.

"Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord."

- Psalm 27:14

New Living Translation.

1. Prayer Requests

If you need Healing, Provision, Peace, Wisdom, Restoration, send it to us on WhatsApp. We pray over every request on Thursday.

2. Acknowledging God's Faithfulness

  • Father, we thank you that you do not change with our seasons or our moods.
  • Lord, we trust your timing even where we cannot see the next step.
  • God, we hold on to what you have promised when nothing around us looks like it.
  • Jesus, we worship you for a love that outlasts everything we have lost.
  • Lord, we thank you that you stay close when everyone else has gone quiet.

Why we pray this: We start here because our trust has to rest on something steadier than our week. God has not changed since the last time we prayed. Remembering that is what makes the waiting bearable.

3. Hope for Those Facing Job Loss

  • Father, give us peace in the uncertainty we are carrying into this week.
  • Lord, open doors we could never open ourselves and give us courage to walk through them.
  • God, provide what we need for today, and teach us to ask without shame.
  • Jesus, give us strength to keep trying after the silence and the no.
  • Lord, we trust you to provide even when the way you will do it is hidden.

Why we pray this: Losing an income shakes more than a bank balance. It touches how a person sees themselves. We pray because God's plans for us are good even in the part we cannot see yet.

4. Peace for the Anxious Heart

  • God, bring calm into the noise we cannot switch off.
  • Lord, meet us at 2am when sleep will not come and our thoughts keep running.
  • Father, restore the quiet inside us that worry has worn down.
  • Jesus, we hand you the worry we keep picking back up.
  • Lord, we trust your protection over what we cannot guard ourselves.

Why we pray this: Anxiety is loudest when the house is dark and quiet. God's peace is not a feeling we manufacture. It is something he guards us with while we are still afraid.

5. Strength for the Weary Parent

  • Father, give us endurance for the ordinary days that take more than anyone sees.
  • Lord, give us patience with the ones we are teaching, and slow our tempers.
  • God, renew our energy and our spirit when we are running on empty.
  • Jesus, give us joy in the work you have placed in our hands.
  • Lord, surround us with people who carry the load with us.

Why we pray this: Tiredness is not a sign of failure. God holds up the people who lean on him. If you are the one doing school lunches during loadshedding with a phone torch, this prayer is for you.

6. Praying for Marriages Under Strain

  • Father, heal what has been broken between us and the people closest to us.
  • Lord, teach us to understand before we defend, and to forgive before we are asked.
  • God, renew love and commitment where both have grown tired.
  • Jesus, give us wisdom in our words, especially the ones said quickly.
  • Lord, bring unity and peace where there has been tension for too long.

Why we pray this: Most damage happens slowly, in small moments nobody records. God repairs relationships and he heals the people in them. We pray for both.

7. Encouragement for the Discouraged

  • God, hold us to your promises when we have run out of hope.
  • Father, give us a new picture of the future when we can only see the setback.
  • Lord, give us strength to face the obstacle that keeps coming back.
  • Jesus, give us joy in your presence even before anything changes.
  • Lord, use us to encourage someone who is close to giving up this week.

Why we pray this: Discouragement tells you to stop. God gives a reason to keep going. That is why we pray these lines out loud in a room with other people, where someone can hear you say it.

8. Patience in God's Timing

  • Father, we trust your plan even when the waiting makes no sense to us.
  • Lord, give us strength to wait without giving up and without forcing a door.
  • God, give us joy in the slow work you are doing in us.
  • Jesus, teach us to be content today instead of living in a future we cannot see.
  • Lord, keep our hope alive for what you have said you will do.

Why we pray this: Waiting does something to a person. It wears away the parts of us that need to be in control. Patience is how trust gets deep.

Pray these at home this week

9. Provision for Overwhelming Debts

  • Father, give us wisdom in every decision we make with what we have.
  • Lord, give us peace when the numbers do not add up.
  • God, surprise us with provision from places we did not expect.
  • Jesus, set us free from the weight that follows us into every room.

Why we pray this: Debt sits on your chest at night and follows you to work in the morning. We ask God for wisdom first, then for provision. Pray this one at home during the week.

10. Healing for the Sick and Afflicted

  • Father, strengthen the body that is tired of fighting.
  • Lord, comfort those in pain tonight, in the hours no one else sees.
  • God, we trust your power to heal, and we ask you to heal.
  • Jesus, send family and friends who stay close and keep showing up.
  • Lord, restore health and strength where sickness has taken ground.

Why we pray this: We ask plainly, because God invites us to ask. He is the healer and he is also the strength we need while we wait for healing. Pray this one at home during the week.

11. Guidance for Those at Crossroads

  • Father, give us clarity where two paths look the same.
  • Lord, give us peace about a future we cannot yet see.
  • God, give us courage to take the next step instead of standing still.
  • Jesus, we trust you to lead us even when direction comes slowly.
  • Lord, give us wisdom to choose what honours you rather than what looks easy.

Why we pray this: God leads people who genuinely want to be led. Sometimes the answer comes as one clear step rather than the whole map. Pray this one at home during the week.

Why pray this?

Does God get tired of me?

No. God does not change his mind about you based on how your week went. Praying about his faithfulness is a way of reminding yourself of that when your feelings say otherwise. It steadies you before you ask for anything.

What do I pray when I have lost my job?

Pray for today first, then for the door that opens next. Ask God for what you need now and for the strength to keep applying after the rejections. Praying it out loud helps because unemployment makes a person feel invisible, and this puts words to what you are carrying.

How do I pray when anxiety keeps me awake at night?

Say it simply and say it out loud, even at 2am. Tell God what the fear is and ask him to guard your heart while you are still afraid. You are not required to feel calm before you pray. The calm usually comes after.

Is it normal to feel exhausted as a parent?

Yes, completely normal. Being worn out does not mean you are doing it wrong. Praying for strength is honest about the load, and it puts the weight where it can be carried. Asking other people for help is part of the answer.

Can prayer save a marriage that is falling apart?

Prayer changes the people in the marriage, and that is where repair starts. God heals hearts, which is usually what has to happen before anything else does. Pray for your words and your patience as much as you pray for the relationship.

What do I do when I feel like giving up?

Tell God exactly that, then ask for strength for the next day only. Discouragement shrinks your view of the future, and prayer slowly widens it again. Come and pray with people if you can. Our prayer meeting in Pretoria North runs Thursdays from 19:00 to 20:00, led by Pastor Ricardo Zaal.

Why does God take so long to answer prayer?

We do not always get the reason, and pretending otherwise helps nobody. What we do know is that waiting changes us in ways that getting the answer quickly would not. Praying through the delay keeps you close to God instead of drifting from him.

Does God help with debt?

God gives wisdom for the decisions in front of you and peace while you work through it. Ask for both. Many people pray only for the debt to disappear and miss the help available in the next right choice. Keep praying and keep facing the numbers.

Should I still pray for healing if the doctors say no?

Yes. Asking God to heal and accepting good medical care go together. Prayer also gives you strength and comfort for the days in between, which is a real answer even when the body is slow to change.

How do I know which decision God wants me to make?

Most of the time clarity comes one step at a time rather than all at once. Ask God for the next step, then take it. Talk it through with someone you trust who knows you well. Peace that stays after a few days is usually worth listening to.

We pray these together every Thursday
