A Prayer for When You Are Tired of Waiting

• •Father, we admit we are impatient with you, and we would rather say it than hide it.
• •Jesus, we hand you the frustration we are holding tonight instead of carrying it home again.

Why we pray this: Honesty comes first. God is not put off by a rough, unedited prayer, and pretending costs us more than it saves. He asks for our real condition before our request list.

3. The Character of God Who Makes Us Wait

• •God, we trust your timing above what we can work out in our heads.
• •Lord, you have been faithful through every season we have lived, and we say so again.
• •Father, you are never slow, never late, never absent, even when the silence stretches long.
• •Jesus, grow our trust in your goodness right now, before anything around us changes.
• •God, steady our confidence in who you are when we cannot see what you are doing.

Why we pray this: Waiting is an active choice. We drop anchor in who God is while the view stays exactly the same. That takes work, and it helps to do it out loud with other people in the room.

4. Strength for Those Who Are Exhausted

• •God, we lay our tired bodies and worn-out feelings in front of you without dressing them up.
• •Lord, renew the ones among us who are running on empty and still getting up each morning.
• •Father, give us grace to keep going one more day, and then one more after that.
• •Jesus, strengthen every person who is carrying others while barely carrying themselves.
• •God, give us the rest that only you can give, deeper than sleep.

Why we pray this: This promise has an address, and the address is the exhausted. People who have it all together do not come looking for strength. Plenty in our Pretoria North room arrive on a Thursday straight from a full shift and a long queue at the taxi rank, and they are exactly who God offers to renew.

5. Guarding Our Hearts Against Bitterness

• •God, guard our hearts from the bitterness that creeps in when our prayers seem to go unanswered.
• •Lord, we bring you the disappointment we have quietly been holding against you.
• •Father, keep our hearts soft and teachable while the season is still hard.
• •Jesus, free us from resentment toward those who seem to be receiving what we are still waiting for.
• •God, we choose to worship you here, in the middle of the waiting.

Why we pray this: What we believe about God when nothing changes ends up shaping everything else. Bitterness grows quietly. Saying it out loud in prayer keeps it from setting like concrete.

6. Perseverance in Prayer Itself

• •God, keep us praying when the answer has not come and we have asked many times already.
• •Lord, build in us a daily habit of seeking you, even on days when nothing feels different.
• •Father, give us the discipline to pray when we do not feel like praying at all.
• •Jesus, hold us together as people who pray for each other and stay close.
• •God, give us courage to keep asking, keep seeking, and keep knocking.

Why we pray this: Jesus told us to keep asking. God does not need convincing. The praying changes the person doing it, slowly, the way most real change happens. Some Thursdays the power is off and we pray by phone light anyway.

7. Surrendering Our Timelines to God

• •God, we loosen our grip on the plans and dreams we have been holding too tightly.
• •Lord, we bring you the one situation where we have been demanding a quick answer.
• •Father, we let go of our preferred outcome and ask for yours instead.
• •Jesus, we trust you with what we cannot control and never could.
• •God, we come with open hands and nothing to bargain with.

Why we pray this: Surrender here means dropping our insistence that God work on our schedule. We still trust him. We just stop setting the deadline for him.

8. Expectation and Hope Renewed

• •God, stir fresh expectation in us for what you are going to do.
• •Lord, give us hope that holds when nothing around us has improved yet.
• •Father, open our eyes to see where you are already at work near us.
• •Jesus, give us boldness to believe again after being disappointed.
• •God, thank you for every faithful thing you have already done that we almost forgot.

Why we pray this: Hope in the Bible is confident expectation, resting on a God who has kept his word before. Remembering feeds it. Write down one thing he has already done before you come on Thursday.
