A Prayer for When You Feel Like Giving Up on Faith

2. Confidence In God's Promises

• •God, we hold on to what you have said, even when nothing around us looks like it yet.
• •Lord, we trust that you are good to us inside the thing we cannot fix.
• •Father, we put our hope in your faithfulness on the days our feelings run out.
• •Lord, we rest in your rule over everything we cannot control.
• •Jesus, we ask for your peace in the place we are weakest.

Why we pray this: Our confidence stands on who God is and what he has said. Feelings move. His character does not. So we pray from what is true about him, even on the nights we cannot feel a thing.

3. Persevering Through Trials

• •Lord, give us endurance in the suffering we have never been able to explain to anyone.
• •God, be our strength in the place we are weakest.
• •Father, give us courage where fear has been speaking louder than you.
• •Jesus, give us joy that survives what is waiting for us this week.

Why we pray this: Standing firm takes staying power. Most of it happens quietly, over months, with nobody clapping. We ask God for the kind of strength that gets a person through one more day.

4. Doing The Will Of God

• •Lord, help us do what you have asked, including the part we keep avoiding.
• •Father, we submit to your plan when ours falls apart.
• •God, we hand over the thing we have been gripping hardest.
• •Jesus, teach us to follow your Spirit today, slowly if that is all we can manage.
• •Lord, shape us to look more like you in the place nobody sees.

Why we pray this: Faith shows up in what we actually do on a Tuesday. We are asking for the will to follow through, in small things first. That is where most of it is decided.

5. Receiving What God Has Promised

• •Father, thank you for the life with you that nothing here can take away from us.
• •Lord, give us the gifts of your Spirit for the work in front of us.
• •God, grow good fruit in us where the ground has felt hard.
• •Jesus, thank you for what comes from walking your way, even when it costs us.

Why we pray this: God's promises are what keep tired people moving. We say them out loud to remind ourselves of what is coming. It puts fuel back in the tank.

6. Waiting For The Lord's Return

• •Lord, keep us watching for you with real expectation.
• •God, keep us awake to what you are doing while we wait.
• •Father, teach us to wait faithfully when the answer is slow in coming.
• •Jesus, keep our longing for you alive through the long stretch.

Why we pray this: Waiting is hard work. In Pretoria North our prayer room fills at 19:00 on a Thursday, sometimes in loadshedding, sometimes with people who have been waiting years. We keep watching anyway.

7. Living A Life Of Faithfulness

• •Lord, keep our love for you steady when nobody is watching.
• •God, hold our commitment firm through the week ahead.
• •Father, make our trust in you hard to shake when the ground moves.
• •Jesus, keep a real hunger for you burning in us.
• •Lord, help us stay with you in the ordinary hours.

Why we pray this: How we treat God says a lot about how much we love him. Faithfulness is mostly ordinary. Showing up again, then again, then again.

8. Growing In Maturity And Depth

• •Father, give us a deeper understanding of you than we had last year.
• •Lord, give us wisdom for the decision we keep postponing.
• •God, sharpen our discernment so we can tell your voice from the noise.
• •Jesus, grow us up in the places we are still small.
• •Lord, build character in us that holds when the pressure comes.

Why we pray this: People who stand firm over time end up deeper. That growth is slow and you rarely notice it happening. We pray for it anyway, and one day we look back and see it.
