A Prayer When Life Feels Like a Fight You Cannot Win
Standing Firm in Spiritual Warfare · Ephesians 6:10-11
By Ricardo Zaal, Founder and Lead Pastor ·
Pray this now
God, I am tired and I am scared, and I am praying anyway. The thing I cannot fix is still there this morning. I ask you for strength inside it, enough for today. Hold me steady when my courage runs out. Be close in the hours when I feel most alone. Teach me to trust you one hour at a time. I give you what I am carrying, even the parts I have no words for. Amen.
"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes."
- Ephesians 6:10-11Scripture taken from the Holy Bible, New International Version, NIV. Used by permission.
1. Prayer Requests
If you need Healing, Provision, Peace, Wisdom, Restoration, send it to us on WhatsApp. We pray over every request on Thursday.
2. Acknowledging God's Strength and Protection
- God, we thank you that your power reaches into the place we feel weakest this week.
- Lord, cover us with your armor as we face what is waiting for us.
- Father, hold us steady in your love that stays the same through every season.
- Jesus, we stand in the victory you won, even where the fight still feels loud.
Why we pray this: Paul says the armor belongs to God, and He hands it to us. We start here on purpose. Strength comes first, and then we bring Him everything else.
3. Strength for Those Facing Job Loss
- God, give us hope that holds when tomorrow looks blank.
- Lord, open doors we cannot see from here, and give us courage to walk through them.
- Father, bring your peace into the hours when worry wakes us at 2am.
- Jesus, surround us with people who stay close when the news is hard.
Why we pray this: Losing work shakes far more than income. We pray because God has provided before and provides again, often in ways we would never have drawn up. Saying it out loud with other people makes the waiting easier to carry.
4. Peace for Marriages Under Strain
- Father, bring healing where something close to us has been torn.
- Lord, give us patience with the person who is hardest for us to understand.
- God, teach us to speak honestly and to listen longer than feels comfortable.
- Jesus, let your love be the floor under everything we carry.
Why we pray this: Love wears thin when two people stop hearing each other. God's love can mend what has frayed. Patience usually arrives first, well before the breakthrough does.
5. Faith for Those with Illness
- Lord, bring healing and comfort where body and mind have worn thin.
- God, be our strength in the place where we have run out.
- Father, stay near us in the hours that hurt most.
- Jesus, help us trust your timing when answers come slower than we want.
Why we pray this: Illness takes the energy a person needs for everything else. We lean on God for healing and for daily strength. And we ask for His nearness, which He gives while we wait.
6. Encouragement for Parents of Silent Children
- God, give us wisdom to understand what the people we love struggle to say.
- Father, grow patience in us for a road that has been long.
- Lord, heal what has gone quiet between us and the ones we love.
- Jesus, send us guidance and people who walk with us through this.
Why we pray this: Silence leaves a parent guessing. We ask God for wisdom, because love works better when it understands. This one is a long game, and prayer keeps a person steady in it.
7. Clarity for Those Facing Life Decisions
- Lord, give us discernment where the way ahead is unclear.
- God, settle our minds with your peace as we weigh what is in front of us.
- Father, help us trust your leading one step at a time.
- Jesus, give us confidence to move when you say move.
Why we pray this: Big decisions keep people awake. We ask God for wisdom and then we trust His guidance. Peace often arrives once we start walking.
8. Hope for the Weary and Burdened
- God, renew our strength where we have been running on empty.
- Father, give us real rest, the kind sleep alone can only start.
- Lord, lift the weight we have been carrying quietly.
- Jesus, bring us joy in your presence even before anything changes.
Why we pray this: Jesus invited tired people to come to Him and rest. That invitation still stands on a Thursday night in Pretoria North at 19:00. We pray for rest that goes deeper than a weekend.
Pray these at home this week
On Thursday we pray the points above together. The ones below are yours for the week.
9. Provision for Those Struggling Financially (prayed at home during the week, not in the meeting)
- Father, provide what we need, and help us trust you while we wait.
- God, give us wisdom with what is already in our hands.
- Lord, open ways forward that grow us for the long term.
- Jesus, make us generous in a tight season, and send us help when we need it.
Why we pray this: Money pressure sits heavy, especially when the payslip runs out before the month does. God provides, and often through ordinary people and plain hard work. Pray this one at home during the week.
10. Comfort for Those Grieving (prayed at home during the week, not in the meeting)
- God, give us peace that runs deeper than our understanding.
- Father, be close to us in the quiet hours when the loss is loudest.
- Lord, surround us with people who sit with us and stay.
- Jesus, hold our hope in the life you promised beyond this one.
Why we pray this: Grief comes in waves. We pray because God stays close to broken-hearted people, and His comfort is real while the ache remains. Pray this one at home this week.
11. Guidance for New Believers (prayed at home during the week, not in the meeting)
- Lord, grow our faith and our understanding a little more each week.
- Father, plant us among people who will know us and walk with us.
- God, strengthen us for the battles we meet as we follow you.
- Jesus, help us hold on to your promises when our feelings move around.
Why we pray this: New faith grows best around other people. We pray for community, for understanding, and for strength when things get hard. Growth takes months, and that is normal.
Why pray this?
Why do I feel like something is fighting me all the time?
Most people feel that pressure at some point, and the Bible treats it as real. Ephesians 6 says God gives us armor for exactly that. Praying this reminds you the strength on offer is His, and it is available today.
What do I pray when I have just lost my job?
Tell God the truth about how frightened you are, then ask Him for hope for one day. Ask for open doors and for people who will stand with you while you look. Praying for peace matters as much as praying for work, because fear makes the search harder.
Can a marriage come back after things get this bad?
Yes, plenty do, usually slowly and with help. Prayer gives both people somewhere honest to put the anger and the fear. It also keeps God's love in the middle, which holds when feelings go flat.
Why doesn't God just heal me?
Honest answer: we do not know why some healing comes fast and some comes later. What Scripture promises is His presence in the middle of it. Praying for healing and for strength at the same time lets you keep hope and reality together.
What do I do when my child stops talking to me?
Keep showing up gently, and ask God for wisdom about what your child is carrying. Silence usually means something hard is going on inside. Praying for patience helps you stay steady long enough for them to speak.
How do I know which choice is the right one?
You usually see more after you pray than before, though rarely as fast as you want. Ask for wisdom, watch for peace, and take the next step you can see. God tends to guide people who are moving.
What do I do when I am too tired to pray?
Pray one sentence. God can work with that. Praying while empty puts the load somewhere other than your shoulders, and the words can be as short as help me.
Does God care about my money problems?
Yes. Jesus taught us to ask for daily bread, so money belongs in prayer. Ask for provision, ask for wisdom with what you already have, and tell one person you trust. Help often arrives through people.
How long does grief last?
There is no timetable, and anyone who gives you one is guessing. Grief softens in waves. Some days still ambush you, and praying lets you be sad in front of God, where His comfort meets you.
I just became a Christian, where do I start?
Start with a Bible, a church family, and a daily habit of talking to God. Those three do more over six months than any single big moment. Our prayer meeting runs Thursdays from 19:00 to 20:00 in Pretoria North if you want people around you.
We pray these together every Thursday
