A Prayer When You Don't Know What to Do Next

Why we pray this: Our read on a situation is usually too short. God sees the whole road. Saying this out loud is a way of admitting we would rather be led than guess.

3. Submitting Our Plans to God

• •Father, we bring our plans to you with open hands and ask you to correct what needs correcting.
• •Lord, shape what we want until it looks like what you want for us.
• •God, teach us to wait without panic when your timing runs slower than ours.
• •Jesus, give us the willingness to turn around the moment you show us a better way.

Why we pray this: When we hand our plans over, God gets room to direct the next step. Some of us have been holding the same plan for years. This prayer loosens the grip.

4. Finding Peace in God's Control

• •God, give us peace in the middle of what is still unsettled.
• •Lord, put joy in us because you carry what we cannot carry.
• •Father, we hand you the worry that keeps us awake at 2am and ask for rest.
• •God, keep us and the people we love safe under your care this week.
• •Lord, we trust your timing even where the waiting has gone on far too long.

Why we pray this: Peace turns up when we stop trying to force an outcome. On a Thursday at 19:00 in Pretoria North, this gets prayed in a room where half the people are still waiting on an answer. Waiting gets lighter when it is shared.

5. Obedience to God's Instructions

• •Father, give us ears quick to hear you and feet quick to move.
• •God, help us obey you gladly in the small things nobody else will ever notice.
• •Lord, give us courage to take the step we have been avoiding.
• •Jesus, give us strength to keep following you when following costs us something.

Why we pray this: Following God is built out of small yeses. A quick yes today makes the next one easier. That is how the friendship deepens.

6. Recognizing God's Presence in Our Lives

• •God, open our eyes to know you are near, even in the most ordinary hours.
• •Father, thank you that you stay close when other things move away from us.
• •Lord, show us your hand at work in the small mercies of this week.
• •Jesus, keep the moments we have met you fresh in our memory.

Why we pray this: God is already near. Naming it wakes us up to it. Some of the clearest moments happen in the quiet, when loadshedding hits and the house goes dark.

7. Letting Go of Control

• •God, we let go of what we have been gripping and we put it in your hands.
• •Lord, we trust that your plan is better than the one we wrote for ourselves.
• •Father, take the fear we carry quietly and the doubt we never say out loud.
• •God, free us from the tiring belief that everything depends on us.

Why we pray this: Holding on tightly wears a person down. Letting go gives God space to work. The relief often comes before anything else changes.

8. Growing in Faith Through Surrender

• •Father, grow our faith in the very place where we are weakest.
• •Lord, teach us to lean on your strength when ours has run out.
• •God, thank you that you have kept your word to us before, and you are still keeping it.
• •Jesus, give us staying power to keep trusting you long after the feeling fades.

Why we pray this: Faith grows through use. Every time we surrender something, we find that God carries it. The next time is a little easier.
