Why do I keep going back to my past mistakes in my head?

It is 2am, or maybe it is the drive to work, and your mind pulls up old footage again. Not the good stuff. The wrong turns. The things you wish you had done differently. You replay it and replay it, and somewhere in all that, a quiet question forms: has any of my life added up to anything good? Here is what the psalmist did when his mind was stuck on hard memories. He chose, deliberately, to scroll back further. Past the failures. All the way to where God showed up.

"I will remember the works of the LORD: surely I will remember thy wonders of old."

Before you sleep tonight, name one moment from your past where something went right when it really should not have. One moment. Write it on your phone or say it out loud in the car. Let that memory sit next to the painful ones. It belongs there too.

What would change today if you spent as much time remembering the good God has done as you spend remembering your regrets?

God, my mind keeps going back to what went wrong. Help me remember further back than my failures, to the places where you came through for me. I choose to remember that today. Amen.
