Why am I so afraid of being alone with my thoughts?
Pretoria North · 20 May 2026

"Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth."
- Psalm 46:10 (KJV)
You fear the silence but won't admit it. You cram your days with noise, meetings, tasks. Anything to keep the quiet at bay. Because when the world stills, what's left? Just you and the questions you avoid.
You didn't ask for these shadows. But they linger. Busyness might mask them, but deep down, you know they're there. Each frantic hour a shield from your own thoughts. If you stop, even for a moment, the reality might flood in - and that's terrifying. No one talks about this, do they? How the demands can be both refuge and prison.
Yet, consider this: "Be still, and know that I am God." Silence isn't empty - it's full. Full of grace, understanding, healing. When Elijah fled to the cave, it wasn't wind or fire that reached him - it was the whisper. What if the quiet is where you find what you've been running from, but also what you've been longing for?
So, tonight, let the noise fade a bit. What would it mean for you to truly listen?
