How do I actually stop a worry spiral before it takes over?
Pretoria North · 23 August 2026

A worry spiral has a starting point. One thought pulls the next, and before you know it you are lying awake planning for disasters that have not happened yet and may never happen. Most people try to stop it by thinking harder, which only feeds it. The Bible does not tell you to think less. It tells you to redirect. The moment you feel the spiral beginning, here is what God says to do instead.
"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God."
- Philippians 4:6 (KJV)
Today, when you catch the worry starting, stop and say one sentence out loud to God. Not a long prayer. Just name the thing: 'God, I am worried about this bill, this person, this meeting.' Then say one thing you are grateful for, also out loud. That small move breaks the loop.
Lord, I bring you the worry I woke up with this morning. I am naming it to you now, not because you do not know, but because I need to let go of it. Hold it for me today. Amen.
