Why do I feel guilty saying no to people who need me?
Pretoria North · 11 June 2026

"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
- Matthew 11:28 (KJV)
You say yes because saying no feels like abandonment. Like you're the only thing holding someone together. Like if you step back, everything collapses.
But here's what exhaustion is actually telling you: you've mistaken yourself for someone's savior. You've believed the lie that your worth lives in your usefulness. So you keep adding yes on top of yes, hoping one of them will finally be enough to prove you matter.
The truth underneath the tiredness is this - you're terrified of being needed less. Of discovering who you are when you're not needed at all. But listen: "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Not more work. Not proof of loyalty. Rest. The kind that tells you that you were never supposed to be the load-bearer.
Your exhaustion isn't a sign you're not doing enough. It's a sign you're doing someone else's job.
What would change if you believed you were already enough?
