You're Blocked by One Thing and Don't Even Know It

You have limitations. Maybe you lack qualifications, money, the right looks, or you're ashamed of past mistakes. But these aren't your real obstacle. Your real problem is believing they mean you can't move forward.

This message is for you if:

  • You avoid opportunities because you lack the 'right' credentials
  • You delay taking action until everything feels perfect
  • You think your past mistakes make you unworthy
  • You need to know if God sees past your limitations

Your Shortcoming Is Not Your Stopping Point

Zacchaeus was a man with a real obstacle. He was short. In a crowd trying to see Jesus, his height made it impossible. Most people would accept that limitation and walk away. Instead, Zacchaeus looked at what he lacked and climbed a tree anyway.

This is what Jesus wants you to understand: your shortcomings don't block you from breakthrough. They're actually the thing God uses to push you forward. You don't have the job qualifications? That's the exact moment to apply anyway. You lack the money for transport? Stand on the route. You think your past disqualifies you? That's when Jesus moves closest.

The limitation isn't between you and your future. Your belief that it is-that's what stops you cold. Jesus entered Jericho to find Zacchaeus because He saw someone willing to overcome an obstacle, not someone paralyzed by it.

See Who Jesus Really Is in Your Situation

Zacchaeus climbed that tree because he wanted to see Jesus. Not to be famous. Not to be close to the center of attention. He wanted to see Him. When you shift your eyes from your problem to Jesus, everything changes. You start to see what He's doing in your situation, not just what's going wrong in it.

Maybe you lost a car the bank repossessed. Your eyes stay on the loss. But if you look for Jesus in that moment, you see He's clearing the way for something better-a car that won't drain your finances, owned free and clear. You can't see that breakthrough until you see Him first. Jesus told us in His word: 'I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a future and a hope' (Jeremiah 29:11). That future exists. You just have to look for Him in your present.

When you desire to know Jesus, you'll actually know Him. Your mind has to be set on finding Him in your circumstances, not giving up because of them. That's when He becomes real to you-not in theory, but in the situations you're walking through right now.

Move Today, Not Tomorrow

Jesus said to Zacchaeus: 'Make haste and come down, for today I must abide at thy house.' Not tomorrow. Not when you've prepared enough or waited for better timing. Today. Most of us know what we should do but never do it. We think. We plan. We wait for the perfect moment. Meanwhile, Jesus moves on.

You have one opportunity in front of you right now. It might not come back. God is asking you to stop procrastinating and act today. If you know you need to pursue that job, apply today. If you know you need to ask for forgiveness, do it today. If you know you need to turn your life around, start today. The delay is what costs you, not the action.

But here's the hard part: before you move, you have to come down. You have to swallow your pride. Zacchaeus was the head of the tax collectors-important, respected, proud. Jesus told him to humble himself. If you've been telling yourself you're too good for certain opportunities, too damaged by your past, too embarrassed to ask for help, you have to come down from that. Humility isn't weakness. It's the position from which Jesus lifts you up.

What Happens When You Actually Abide With Him

When Zacchaeus received Jesus joyfully, something shifted. He didn't just get advice. He got presence. He walked with Jesus. Imagine what changes when the God who made everything is actually walking next to you, with you, in your daily life. Your struggle about money? Jesus turns water into wine. Your need for provision? He tells you where the fish are. Your fear about the future? He gives you a vision of where you're headed.

Abiding with Jesus means you're fully satisfied. Not someday. Now. You stop waiting for all your problems to solve before you can be at peace. You have peace because He's with you. You have provision because He's present. You're not anxious about tomorrow because you're living with the God who holds tomorrow.

And here's what else happens: people notice. You'll be 'the talk of the town.' Some will respect what God has done in you. Others will be jealous or skeptical. They'll see the shift in your circumstances and wonder how it happened. That's fine. Let them talk. What matters is that you're living under the covering of Jesus, and He takes care of His own.

Ask for Forgiveness and Receive Salvation

Zacchaeus didn't just receive Jesus and move on. He faced what he'd done wrong. He said: 'Lord, I give half my goods to the poor, and if I've wrongfully accused anyone, I'll repay them fourfold.' He asked for forgiveness. Not just from God-from the people he'd harmed. That's what remorse looks like. Not shame that paralyzes you, but sorrow that moves you to make it right.

Jesus responded: 'This day is salvation come to this house.' Not next week. Not after you've proven yourself. Today. Salvation means you're forgiven. Your past doesn't define your future. Your mistakes don't disqualify you. You're seen as a son of Abraham-a child of God, part of His family, given a fresh start. That's what Jesus offers when you stop hiding your past and bring it to Him honestly.

The same salvation is available to you. Not because you deserve it. Because Jesus came 'to seek and to save that which was lost' (Luke 19:10). You're not too far gone. Your circumstances aren't too complicated. Your shame isn't too heavy. Jesus came for you.

"Your shortcomings aren't what's stopping you. Your belief that they should stop you is."

Key Takeaways

  1. Obstacles Are Invitations to Act, Not Reasons to Wait When Zacchaeus saw his height as a problem, he could have given up. Instead, he saw it as a reason to try harder-to climb the tree. Jesus doesn't ask you to wait until all your obstacles disappear. He asks you to move toward Him in spite of them. The qualification you lack, the money you don't have, the past you can't change-these are the exact conditions under which you should act most boldly, knowing that Jesus meets effort with breakthrough.
  2. Seeing Jesus Changes How You See Everything Else Perspective shift is everything. When your focus stays on what you're missing, you stay stuck. When you shift your eyes to who Jesus is and what He's done, you see your situation differently. You see His hand moving. You see opportunity where you only saw obstacle. You see a future instead of a dead end. This isn't positive thinking-it's actual sight. It's learning to look at your life the way Jesus looks at it.
  3. Immediate Obedience Opens Doors That Waiting Closes Jesus said 'make haste' and 'today.' Not because He's in a hurry, but because delay kills momentum and feeds doubt. The moment you know what you should do, do it. Apply for the job today. Ask for forgiveness today. Seek Jesus today. Tomorrow brings a thousand new reasons to delay. Today is the only day you're guaranteed, and it's the only day Jesus promised to abide with you in.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I don't have the qualifications or money to move forward?

Jesus doesn't require your qualifications. He requires your willingness to try. Zacchaeus was short-an unchangeable fact-but he climbed the tree anyway. Do what you can do today. Apply. Show up. Make the effort. God meets you where you are and provides what you can't see yet. The provision comes after the obedience, not before.

How do I know God has forgiven me for my past mistakes?

Jesus told Zacchaeus: 'This day is salvation come to this house.' When you bring your wrongdoing to Jesus honestly, admit what you've done, and ask for forgiveness-both from God and from people you've hurt-He says yes. Your past doesn't define you. You're forgiven. You're a son or daughter of God with a fresh start. That's not a feeling you earn; it's a fact Jesus declares over you.

What does it mean to 'abide with Jesus' in real life?

It means inviting Him into your daily reality-not just on Sundays or in prayers, but in your work, your relationships, your decisions, your fears. It means when you're stuck, you ask Him. When you're confused, you listen for Him. When you're afraid, you remember He's with you. When you walk with Jesus, provisions come that you couldn't earn. Peace comes that doesn't make sense. Joy comes even in hard times. That's what it means to have Him actually present in your life.

Once again, greetings in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour. We have been going through, I just want to go back to what I was saying in regards with the message, bringing it back to you. So number one, if you're looking at it, this is to break through situations. I want you to break through situations. Now, breaking through situations, which is obviously something that is not a situation that is supposed to bring you or to stop you. Okay, apologies. Excellent. Wow, wow. We love you, we love you, we love you, Jesus. Yeah, okay, let me go back. Starting from number one, there's a lot of things that you should know. That Jesus is actually having at this moment, he's been giving us all these things. And when he gave us this, it is actually the things that help us. And it helps us to grow through life, to go through life and to be alive. And number one, if you're looking at it, number one is, he wants you to have a breakthrough or to break through situations, that's the one that we need to get on at this stage. And then he wants you to see him for who he is, number two. And he wants you to know him, number three. And he also wants you not to be time, you must be in a hurry. So you need to do things quickly, number three. Then also at the same time, I mean, number four, sorry. So also at the same time, yeah, you must be in a hurry. And then also number five is to leave certain things, to come down and not be too high on things, okay? And then also number six is to use just a note of the day. And then number seven is to abide in him, which I will explain later. And then not just to abide in him, but also to receive him joyfully. That's also, then also to be the talk of the town, to be the talk of number nine. Ten is to help him most, you know, what you have done. And so to ask for forgiveness. Number 11, salvation. Twelve is to be a son. So let me just, let me just start off, let me just start off again. Number one is to break through situations, break through situations. Number one, number two is to see who God is for who he is. Number two, number three is to desire him, to know him, to desire to know him. And number four is, but to do it today, immediately, not to be number five is to come down. All that you've been doing, just be humble. Come down, don't be too much of yourself. And obviously to do everything this day, not to have it the other day. And also to abide in him. Number seven, number eight is also not just to abide, but to receive him joyfully. And receiving joyfully to be satisfied, fully satisfied. Number nine is to be the talk of the town. And number 10 is to have remorse for what you have done. Ask for forgiveness. And also ask people for forgiveness, yeah, for forgiveness. Number 10, number 11 is salvation. And number 12 is to be a son. Let me go through it. Is to have a break through now. I'm going to read once again on the book of Luke number 19. And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho. And there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans. And he was rich. He was to see Jesus for who he was and could not praise because he was a little stature. Because he was a little stature. Now, and he went before and climbed up and it's a similar thing. And to see him for who he was to pass that way. And Jesus came to the place, he looked up and saw him and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste and come down for today. I must abide at thy house. And he made haste and came, come down and received him joyfully. And when he saw him, they all murmured, saying that he was gone, to be a guest with the man that is a sinner. And Zacchaeus stood and said unto the Lord, Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor. And if I have taken anything from any man by false accusation, I will be showing him for what he has done. And Jesus said unto him, this day, his salvation come to this house, for so much as he also is the son of Abraham, for the son of man come to seek and save which was lost. So now let me go to explain. Now, when you're looking at being a person of a short stature, he has a shortcoming. Now, because he has a shortcoming, that is the thing God wants to give you. Whether you have a shortcoming or not, He wants to give you breakthrough. He wants to give you breakthrough regardless of whatever you are going through. He wants to give you breakthrough. So many of you just look at your shortcomings and say to yourself, look, this is the shortcoming I have. Unfortunately, this is where it stops. And then thinking from there, your shortcoming then go on to make it not to take a step to go further. And therefore, this one God wants to give you breakthrough, but your shortcomings has come between you and him. And therefore, whatever shortcomings you have is just to ask him that Lord give me an idea that I can use to take the shortcoming and forward to where you want me to be. So the breakthrough that he wants to give you, go there forward with it. So in this case, Zacchaeus was short of stature. So he was a little bit of a midget, if I can call it this way. He was a little bit of me, if I can call it that, because I'm short of stature as well. Sometimes I can't see through the crown. But because Jesus saw, I mean Zacchaeus saw his shortcomings, what then happened is that he then lift himself up, go to a tree, making the means to see Jesus. So when Jesus wants you to breakthrough, is to breakthrough situations, whatever you are going through. So if you don't get the job because you don't have the qualifications, it does not mean that you don't have to put in your seed, still put in your seed, still climb that tree. That doesn't mean that you can't have that job because you don't have the means to use the transport. Go and stand next to the root to go to that interview height if you need to be. Because through that, God sees that you are about to go. So therefore this morning in the name of Jesus, as we go through this series of things that God wanted to have, I want you to have breakthrough in the mighty name of Jesus, as much as God wants you to have breakthrough in Jesus. Number two, he wants you to see who Jesus is because the reason why Zacchaeus was climbing up the tree is because of this, he had a desire to see Jesus. Because of the desire that you have to see yourself through your miracle, to see your miracle, Jesus being the miracle, Jesus being the miracle, he wants you to see God the miracle because through seeing Jesus, you will see all your situations come to pass, all your situations that you've been praying for will move forward. So this morning in the mighty name of Jesus, if you have not been seeing Jesus for who he is, I pray that God will open up your eyes because he said, only the pure of heart will see me. So therefore I purify your heart this morning and I ask God to purify your heart so that you can see him for who he is. Because once you can see him, you can go on to the next step, which is the next step, then when you see him, you will also have, once you have the desire to see him, you will also know who he is, just so that you can understand. So when Zacchaeus was saying, I can't go on the tree, he climbed on the tree and he saw two children and could not press because he was a little stature. And then number four, he said he ran before and climbed up into the tree to see him. Now four, he was passing that way. So when you look at that scripture, he actually climbed up for the desire to see Jesus, not to be close to him, but just to see him. So imagine yourself going through so many situations and just because you want this situation, that situation, that situation, and sometimes your eyes is blind, you cannot see Jesus in this situation. So for argument's sake, I'm just making an example. For some time, you find yourself that you have been having a car for instance, and then the car that you took in your purchase by the bank, and the bank come and take the car back. Now because you cannot see Jesus in that situation is for you to then look to Jesus, why this has been happening? And to see Jesus, you will see the situation is about to give you a better car. And that is the reason why the payment fetch your car because now when they fetch your car, now you can pay back and then get your own car, which you don't have to pay for on a higher price, which God will then give it to you in a manner that you might not be seeing it, but you will find yourself, wow, God has given me a better car than the one that has been given to me because I couldn't see the hand in this situation. This is why Zacchaeus couldn't see Jesus because of this situation that he was going through being shot. And therefore, he had a desire to see Jesus. So therefore, when the desire came, it's how you will actually, once the desire came, is how you will actually know him because once by seeing him, now you will know, and once by knowing him, that by knowing him, it will be a situation that will always help you because the desire to see him, and remember, this is what I also wrote in the notes, is he that has a mind to know Christ shall know of him, shall be know of him, know of him. Oh, what I meant by that is that when you desire to see Jesus, when your mind is set up to see Jesus, you will know him, you will know him. So when you are set out to see him, you will know him. And therefore, this morning, once that day is to know him, you will actually see him in so many different situations. Like in this case, you try to see him, and then when he tried to see him, he knew which way he's going to pass because you are sitting on a higher place. You can see far, and then when you sit next to Jesus, when you have Jesus, and you've already known him, then by knowing him, you can see your future. You can see because what he said in his work, he said, I will give you a future, a future, an expected end. So expected end meaning to say that, for I know the plans I have for you, let's just prosper you and not to harm you, to give you an expected end. So this is what Jeremiah 29 verse 11 said. So by seeing Jesus, you can actually see your future. So therefore, in this case, when you see your future, this is what they move on to say, but he was in a hurry. So don't let us grow under your feet by thinking. Because most of the time, we don't act upon what we know, which we ought to do. So by not knowing what we ought to do, I mean, by knowing what we ought to do, we then have a way of knowing where we are going to, but the problem is, it's not in knowing where to go, it's in making an action step towards it. So therefore, in this case, you must hurry, you must hurry, you must hurry, because you can't be waiting. And therefore, if you're looking at it in verse five, he said, and when he came to the place, he looked up and saw him and said unto Zacchaeus, make haste. So God said to you, make haste, don't wait. Get rak haste, rak haste. So when God said, make haste, he means to say that I cannot wait for you to still think of what will be the next step. I cannot wait for you still to put on your makeup, by putting on the makeup, the guy will still be standing in the same street where you were, by making sure that your tie is fixed. No, you cannot be waiting for that, make haste, because if I move from there, I might not be back, you have one opportunity and one opportunity only. So God wants you to be in a hurry, God wants you to take note of that one opportunity that you have, and being in that one opportunity, that might be that opportunity that might not be going back. So this morning, I want to tell you that for going in a hurry like this, it will help you. But then, what's the use of you being in a hurry while you have certain attitudes, because some of us think, ah, you're telling me to get in a hurry. No, no, no, I won't, because you're telling me, me, I'm the head of the tax collectors. No, no, no, you cannot tell me to come to you in a hurry, no ways, no, no, no, no. Then Jesus said to him, no, no, no, calm down. Jesus said to him, calm down. So by coming down here, to come down from that head of tax collectors, being the head of tax collectors, being humble to step down from where he is to swat through to God, because if you go into your own step in Africa, you're able to boast about yourself, to boast about yourself, to tell yourself, look, I am who I am, because I've been working myself to be the main tax collector, the head of it, and daughter of all the daughters. No, no, no, this is how you need to be humble, humble yourself, humble yourself in the sight of the Lord, because by humbling yourself, he will lift you up. So you have been lifting you up so much. So calm down, my brother, calm down myself. And God wants you to come down, so that you can be humble. And when you come down, it will happen the same day, because he said, he said it so nicely, he said to make haste and come down. And he didn't say, he didn't say come down, I will wait for you tomorrow, come down, I will wait for you to come the day after tomorrow, come down, I will wait for you. I, no, no, no, he said come down for today. I must abide by the house, today. God is asking you that there is no other day than today. Stop wasting time waiting on tomorrow. God wants you to do things today, not to have things made up, to have things made up for tomorrow, still fixing what you have to fix for tomorrow. He said, I wanna abide with you today, today. And if it is that it is today, he wants to abide with you, he wants to abide, God wants to walk with you, that is number seven. God wants to walk with you, so if God wanna walk with you, just picture, imagine somebody like God walking with you, be a human being, just be a human being, just for one minute. Picture yourself walking here with Jesus, this the work that you normally used to have, used to be like, picture that, when you walk with Jesus, you don't wanna look on the ground because somebody might see you. So, with somebody who is important, I'm walking here with somebody who's important. So when you walk with Jesus, you walk with somebody important. So Jesus wants, when you abide with him, you abide with him, you will receive him joyfully. And not just joyfully, but receive him fully satisfied. Because remember, when you walk with Jesus, like with the disciples, picture this, picture this. You walking there with Jesus, the next thing you wanna do something, and you find out yourself, eh, that's your body, there's no money. Imagine, imagine you walking with Jesus and then Jesus say, eh bruh, check there, there are fish. Check there, the fish, not the shark, the fish there, check there. Yeah, oh, oh, oh, no man, bruh, not that fish, that fish, that is not a fish, that is something else, the fish eye. And Jesus said to you, open that mouth of that fish. When open the mouth of the fish, you thinking, eh bruh, I was just saying, I'm struggling to have money. Here you give him, picture that, picture, I'm telling you, just picture that. Imagine yourself walking with Jesus, next thing you are short of a certain thing, then, maybe it's a time that you wanted to go to party and then the next thing is finished. Imagine walking with Jesus, next thing, Jesus says, ah bruh, wine is finished. What are we going to do? You are like, ah man, you are, you are Jesus, man, how, mark a plan. The next thing, Jesus turn water into wine, I mean, picture this, just by buying in him, you will receive him so joyfully, like the scripture said in verse eight, he said it so nicely, and Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, behold Lord, I am a survivor, and he made haste and come down and receive him, I mean in six, and he made haste, so he came and ran to Jesus, and when he came down, he received him joyfully because his desire to see Jesus was not only just to see him, but to actually be with him, to abide with him, by abiding with him, he has received more than what he was expected to. So this morning, picture this, man, if you just abide with Jesus, you just want to see him, you just want to be next to him, the next thing he said, abide with me, come, come down from wherever you've been going to, whatever you've been going to, so these are the things that you should know that when Jesus is in your boat, you will surely catch fish, you will surely be joyful, you will surely be in a situation where you will be fully satisfied, picture this, picture this, you are struggling, you have Jesus next to you, you're walking and suddenly the sun is scorching hot, it's so hot that you can't move, the next thing you said to Jesus, hey, my friend, this thing is not doing it for me, on this, the next thing Jesus said to you, hey, let's shoot quickly here, in David's, or by Markham's, or whatever boutique you have in mind, just picture that, and Jesus said to you, take a shoot there, don't you think that he will give you the best of shoes that is in that store, or the best of places that is in a symptom argument, which will be Louis Vuitton, I don't know what is the best names for certain things, but picture when you walk with Jesus, the next thing you abide by him, the next thing you go to a place where he said, no, no, no, take out the Porsche, and you're driving in a Porsche, riding down the road here, going to your house because Jesus is with you, don't you think you will be the top of the town, picture this, because this happened, but I need to tell you something, because this is what happened to Zacchaeus, he was the top of the town, I'm telling you, and when he's so joyful, verse 7, and when they saw it, they all murmured, saying that he was going to be the guest, with a man that's a sinner, you will be the town, once you know Jesus, they will tell you, hey, this guy he used to drive a dog, now suddenly he's driving a Porsche, he's been dealing with other funny businesses, because you will be the top of the town, be the top of the town, I can tell you now, certain talks will not be the talks that you like, wow, he's such a good guy, he's been giving me my money, and made a mistake, he gave them my back, like Zacchaeus was saying, I gave back, I gave back, no, no, no, they will be saying, ha, look this one, he stole my money, so he's a sinner, he took out from me, so you will be the top of the town, whether it will be a good talk, a bad talk, it does not matter, because to me, when you see certain people in certain banks, you tell them, ah, it's by stealing, that they got where they are, it's by bribing, that they got in torture, that they paid, that they got where they are, you will be the top of the town, whether it's that kind of talk, or where somebody will talk to you in respect, ah, I salute you for being the president today, Cyril Ramaphosa, I salute you for being the president, it wouldn't have been easy for you to get to that position, people would have had respect for you, they would have had to know that you are valuable, therefore, they put you in that place, if you were not a person of value, they would have never been putting you into place, because they perceive you to have value, therefore, when they talk, they will change, this country, Cyril will be doing that, and Cyril has the money, so, picture that, when they talk about you, being, getting into that position where you are, picture them saying, wow, this guy that was staying there in another street, the guy that was staying in Kaikipiram Street, number 14, in a post-game, the guy who stayed in Maratang when he was there, the guy who stayed in Soweto, he was staying in Cape Town, wow, isn't that guy that was staying in the city, look at him having a mansion, those talks will be there, you will have a talk, be the talk of the town, just picture that, just by abiding with Jesus, Jesus wants to abide with him, and he wants you to receive him, hopefully, and therefore, number nine, you will be the talk of the town, you will be the talk of the town, some will talk out of jealousy, but some will talk out of respect, that is why, whenever they talk, you will be the talk of the town, but then you need to understand that when everyone talks of the town, you also need to have remorse done wrongfully, I'm saying to you, by this, I wanna give you, I wanna give you an example, and what happened here with Zacchaeus, and Zacchaeus stood there and said unto the Lord, O Lord, that I have done all this to the poor, and if I've taken anything from any man by force of accusation, I restore him fourfold, so, when you come to Jesus, Jesus wants to give you forgiveness, he wanna forgive you for what you have done, he wanna give you that, even though there was a force of accusation sent against you, you will not give back double fold, I ask for forgiveness, and God wants to give you forgiveness, so, wherever you have made mistakes, God doesn't want you to sit down and say, ah, sorry about that, so, this morning, if God says to you, there's a remorse, number 10, if there's remorse or he wants to forgive you for what you have wrongly, forgive you for your sin, number 11, the nicest part, because what happen if you are with Jesus, he will give you salvation, number 11 is salvation, because this is what's it, this day is salvation, came to this house for so much, for so much as he also is a son of man, so, this day, this day, salvation comes to your household, number 12, salvation comes to your household,
